The CEC sent back the request to detain Narek Karapetyan because it didn't even fit within the illegality standards they themselves had set. "Reading about what's happening around Narek Karapetyan, I can't help but think of Kafka: the most terrifying thing in his novels was also how blatant absurdity was presented as ordinary, routine procedure. That is exactly the same behavior being displayed today by Nikol Pashinyan's CEC and Prosecutor's Office. It is obvious to me that the CEC's granting of consent to bring charges against Narek Karapetyan is in itself a gross violation of the basic norms of law and of the Constitution. The CEC sent back the detention request not out of respect for the law, but because it didn't even fit within the scale of illegality they themselves had established. But simply by giving the green light to bringing charges, the CEC trampled on the guarantees of parliamentary immunity, turning the legal procedure into a tool for carrying out political orders. This is not jurisprudence — this is ordinary political fear. Pashinyan sees that Narek Karapetyan, through his activity, is becoming the most pivotal opposition leader in parliament, and because of this he is losing his self-control. It is also obvious that Pashinyan will not stop: a frightened government is ready to go to any lengths of illegality. But history shows that no government that wraps its own people in absurdity and turns the law into a plaything has a long life — in the end, it too will drown in the very swamp of illegality it created."
